Hi friends,
How have you all been? I had taken a break from designing for a couple of months. Now am back :)
So, about a year and a half back someone had gifted me a couple of blocks of polymer clay that they had bought from the USA. Having never used the material before (it was not available in India yet or I had no clue ha ha..), and having absolutely no idea how to go about it, I started researching on the internet.
After lots of experimenting, research and learning from mistakes I believe I've got the hang of it. I guess, my experience with terracotta jewelry making helped.
Here are a few of the first few things I made. These are the first few of my experiments that went well.
The first picture is of a series of various techniques I tried out, which I've made into stud earrings (yet to attach stud base).

Mokume Gane Technique trials..

Canes and their expansion trials;)

I was playing around with applique technique on a sheet of clay which I then cut up into shapes and turned into ring and pendant. The blue colour is acrylic pearl metallic paint.

So.. let me know what you think. I'll be posting pictures showing the progression of my work and experiments.. Keep smiling.

Round studs in shades of Blues reminiscent of the night sky.

Bright rectangular stud earrings Red, Green and Orange.

Pretty Violet flowers with a Sky Blue heart design.

Hi  :)

Whipped up a new batch of Terracotta pendants and a few sets too.Am working on the next designs and its both fun and frustrating.  :)

The weather has not been very helpful in drying the clay or the paint and its taking a bit longer than anticipated to complete every thing. Still, I believe that the pieces have come out well and am satisfied and happy. So, can't complaint about much else than the pace.

Anyway, here are a few pendants as promised.  Hope you enjoy them.

Pearly Green and blue Leaf pendant reminiscent of the coloring of a peacock feather.

One of my favorite pieces, concentric circles of tiny arrowheads in several contrasting colors for a fun pendant.

Shield pendant in bold colors.
Another pendant with a lot of visual interest.

A half moon pendant in shades of green, earthy yet fresh.

Hi there!!
I have been trying to make a set of matching earrings and necklace in Terracotta. This was the first try and for a beginner, it’s come out decent, I think. :)

I also enjoy making wire jewellery. From simple danglers to wire work, there is a huge variety to explore and create.
Sharing a few of them here..

Friday 10 May 2013

Hello again.. I am updating the blog after a long break but, it is good to be back.

I have been trying my hand at making jewellery out of various mediums like wire and beads, wood, canvas, M-Seal etc, and wanted to share my discovery of a relatively new medium to make Jewellery with - Fired Terracotta Clay. When I say relatively new, I mean that the medium is new to me, even though it has been around since our primitive ancestors had the urge to adorn themselves.

This versatile medium is easy to work with and produces earthy, beautiful and surprisingly durable ornaments and jewellery.

So I have decided to give it a try.  Here are a few of my first trials.

A few of my designs before firing the clay
After firing and painting the pieces, this is how they look..

Hope you like them.

A Look into the Past..

Hi Everyone..   For some time now, I’ve been looking through the designs that I had created in the past, just get back into the mind set and the mood to create more.  Here are a few designs ( more like doodles actually) that I would like to share with you.

The first one is based on the ancient rock art.  The one next to that is based on Mehendi or Henna designs with a floral base. The third one is based on the Red Indian symbols.

And last but not the least, Ganesha (the Hindu Deity believed to be the remover of Obstacles and the Lord of beginnings) for Good Luck.  :)

I would appreciate your comments on the designs.  Catch you soon with my next post..
